Tax Update: Beware of last-minute email scams!

Posted by lgtcpa on Mar 22, 2017

The IRS sends warnings of phishing emails scams, particularly those requesting last-minute changes and account updates.

Cybercriminals are taking the time when people are vulnerable, and creating sophisticated scams to trick anyone.

If there are any changes, be sure to verbally confirm them, such as an email or change of address.

Be sure to strengthen passwords, and to change them. Do not have one password for all accounts.

Become familiar with phishing emails. Be cognizant of the sender address, do not open attachments without a thought, and always hover over links. When in doubt, forward all suspicious emails to phishing@irs.gov.
