Lucas LaChance, CPA, CIA is the partner-in-charge of our Practice Growth department at Lane Gorman Trubitt. He has been with the company since 2007 and started out as an audit team member. We sat down with Lucas and asked him how the last 13 years have been.
A: I started with LGT in 2007 as a staff I in audit. I knew the day I interviewed that I wanted to be a part of LGT. My interview took place in a large office designated for partners. When I asked about the office being so big, my interviewer, a senior auditor, told me that it would be a long time until I got an office like that. He and I are now both partners with the firm.
A: As the partner responsible for our Practice Growth team, I am invested in all of the industries we serve. I work with the niche leaders to help facilitate events and make sure that we are offering the services that our clients need. Before I became the director of Practice Growth in 2015, I worked primarily with not-for-profit (NFP) organizations. My heart really remains with NFPs and they are the few that I have kept as audit clients. I also serve on NFP boards and am involved with a lot of organizations throughout Dallas and the surrounding areas.
A: The biggest milestone in the last year has been making partner at the firm. It’s an achievement that is the culmination of years of long nights and hard-fought wins. Making partner doesn’t necessarily change the way I do business, instead it makes me appreciate what is important in business. Early in my career what was important was getting the work done—finishing the audit, filing the tax return, completing the consulting project. Now, while the focus still remains client service, the important part is developing and understanding the relationship with our clients—what are their pain points, how can we best help them, what challenges do they face that I can help resolve.
A: I am a member of the Texas Society of CPAs (TXCPA) Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Advisory Board, Chair of the NFP state-wide conference, and on the planning committee for the state-wide EXPO conference. I am the Chair of the Finance Committee for the Sammons Center for the Arts, as well as a member of the board of directors. I am a member of the board of directors and treasurer for the Sammons Center for the Arts Endowment Corporation. I am one of two staff advisors for the Young Professionals group at LGT, in which our firm focuses on developing our younger talent, and I feel that is an important aspect of our YP program.
A: World domination. Just kidding, but don’t tell my team that. I am currently focused on expanding the services our firm offers. We are growing, and with that comes new and exciting opportunities. It’s always an adventure leading new initiatives.
